OTHER MISCELLANEOUS EMPLOYMENT LAWS
Fair Labor Standards Act. For the most part, this law governs working hours, wage payments, and overtime. Compliance with the FLSA is mandatory. Employees cannot waive their rights under this law.
State Wage Statutes. These statutes govern, in more detail than the Fair Labors Standard Act, the "time, place, and manner" of wage payments. Often these laws impose penalties for failure make prompt payment to employees who are owed compensation.
Immigration Reform and Control Act. This statute requires employers to verify the legality of a potential employees' work status. It imposes penalties for failure to make the required verifications. The law imposes various sanctions, including potential criminal penalties, for employers who "knowingly" employ illegal workers.
Obtaining Workmen By False Representation - L.R.S. S 8-2-105
Under this statute, it is unlawful to influence, induce, persuade, etc. workmen to change from one place of employment to another by false or deceptive representations.
Typically, this applies to out-of-state hiring and relocation. The employer may be held liable for damages and attorneys' fees.
